Obituary
George Paul Marchand passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 12, 2015. He was born on December 3, 1930 to Joseph-Napoleon and Marie (Qunell) Marchand in Yakima, Washington, and graduated from Marquette High School. After spending four years in the US Navy, he moved to the Puget Sound area and graduated from Seattle University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. George worked for Honeywell Marine Systems Division in Seattle for 35 years.
Active in Boy Scouts for 30 years in Seattle and Everett, George was awarded the District Award of Merit, the St. George Award, and the Silver Beaver. He took the Boy Scout motto to heart, and taught all his children by example to follow the morals and standards taught therein. And, of course, how to build a proper fire.
Upon his retirement, George moved to Camano Island to become a gentleman farmer.
George was best known for his love of music, gardening, camping, and bonfires. Geneology became his passion after his retirement, and he delighted in finding new cousins to add to his extended family. Having lost his father at a young age, George dedicated his life to his family. The word "stranger" was not in his vocabulary, and he welcomed everyone into his family!
George is survived by his wife of 62 years, Geraldine Schroeder Marchand and five children: Ellen (Bruce) McKinney, Paul (Sue) Marchand, Fred (Rebecca Bryson) Marchand, Ed (Gayla) Marchand, and Karen (Daniel) Lee; adopted daughter, Lauri Eastman; his sister Evelyn Kruzic; 17 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Leroy Marchand.
Mass of Christian burial will be held 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 21st at St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, 26900 78th Ave. NW, Stanwood, Washington with a reception following in the church hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in George's name to either Hospice Northwest or the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank.
Private interment will be held at the Anderson Cemetery, Stanwood
