Obituary

George Behrend passed away on November 16th at Josephine Caring Community in Stanwood. George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Mary, of 52 years and his two sisters, Frances and Viola. He was survived by three children, Edward (Maryann), Angie and Timothy (Roxanne). In addition, four grandchildren Noah, Alexander, Wesley and Andrew and two great grandchildren, Avery and Sadie.

He was born February 23rd, 1920 in Redfield, SD. He grew up on the farm in Bloomington, IL with his sisters. He was quite good in school and loved pitching for the Normal High School team. When war broke out, he enlisted in the Navy and was deployed to the Aleutian Islands in Alaska. He was a radio man in PBY aircraft flying submarine patrol flights and bombing missions. After returning from Alaska he married Mary Kincaid on 4/8/1945 and moved to the Seattle area. He reenlisted for the Korean War and retired from the Navy in 1974 after many years of Reserve service at NAS Sandpoint and NAS Whidbey. Outside of Naval service, he worked as an appliance repair man and retired in 1985. He was very active in the Fleet Reserve Association, the Bothell Senior Center and Kirkland Congregational Church until his dementia sidelined him. He was an avid sports fan and was very excited to welcome the Seattle Mariners to Seattle in 1977. He went to games often and both he and Mary were swept up in the excitement of 1995.

Due to COVID there will be a private family service and burial. In lieu of other gifts, please consider remembering George by donating to http://Alzheimers.org to help find a cure for all types of dementia, including that which tormented him.
