Gayle (Buck) Wayland was born April 18, 1938 in Omaha, Nebraska to Forrest and Hazel Buck. She grew up in South Sioux City, Nebraska and after high school attended St. Paul Bible College in St. Paul, Minnesota where she met her husband, Bill. They were married on June 12, 1959.
Gayle happily served as a pastor's wife alongside Bill, first for six years at Horsecreek Community Church in Horsecreek, California and then for twenty-eight years at Camano Chapel. After retiring from Camano Chapel in 1996, she and Bill began Peace Haven Ministries, a ministry to help support Village Missions pastors and their wives. Although she loved being a pastor's wife and serving in so many ways in the church, her greatest love was being a mother and a grandmother. She has four children, Randy Wayland, Becky Wayland Vargas, Jana Wayland Shaughnessy and Kerri Wayland Cunningham. She considered each of their spouses, Jody, Omero, Gene and Sean, as her children as well. She loved her eighteen grandchildren so very much and was deeply involved in all of their lives. They are Brittany, Kristin, Brayden and Kharis Wayland; Jordon, Trynton and Taelor Vargas; Rey and Gabby Candia; Andra, Kayla, Kallen and Elle Shaughnessy; and Riley, Lucy, Lily, Liam and Ruby Cunningham.
Gayle was such a wonderful example of someone dedicated to following Jesus and devoted to her family. She influenced the lives of hundreds, even thousands, of people through her quiet acts of service and love, her teaching and her example. Even after her death her influence will continue to be felt greatly in so many of our lives and the lives of our children. She will be missed more than words can possibly express by her husband, her children and her grandchildren. Her deep and unconditional love for each of them brought such joy, and always will.
Gayle went to be with Jesus on May 18, 2010. Her memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Camano Chapel. Memorials for Gayle can be made to Peace Haven Ministries or Camano Chapel.
