Obituary

Franklin A Hanson

Franklin Hanson was born September 11, 1922 and died November 20, 2010.

Franklin was born in Hillsboro, ND to Siver and Clara Hanson. In the mid 1930s, he traveled with his parents and two brothers to Washington State where his parents bought a farm in the Stanwood area. He eventually purchased the farm from his parents and continued to live there until failing health forced him to require more attention than could be provided for him at the farm

Franklin did many things throughout his life. Besides spending a lifetime as a dairy farmer, he hauled milk cans in the 1940s, drove school bus for many years, and finally retired from the Stanwood School District as the head grounds keeper.

He was involved with many organizations, which included Farm Bureau, Grange, Our Saviour's Lutheran Church of Stanwood, the Stanwood-Camano Fair, Sons of Norway, the local flood control district, and other county committees. He once said that he was busier after retirement than before.

The family wishes to thank the employees of Josephine Sunset Home for all the great care he was given while residing there.

Franklin was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bernice, and his brothers, Harley and Sigurd. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Sigmund and Sharon Hanson of Camano Island; son, Trygve Hanson of Stanwood; son, Eric Hanson of Stanwood; his sister-in-law, Eunice Fiedler of Camano Island; nieces Sheran Fiedler of Evanston, Illinois; Clare Stewart of California; Sue Kitchens of California; Rosemary Hanson of California; Kathy Hanson of California; nephews Warren Fiedler of Stanwood; Bill Strever of Camano Island; Harley Hanson of California; Stephen Hanson of California; and his "honorary children", Alex and Sandi Torrez of Stanwood.

Franklin is now with the Lord. His memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 27201 99th Avenue NW, Stanwood, WA on December 30th at 1 pm. Pastor Don Brekhus will officiate. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Franklin's memory to the building fund at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, PO Box 370, Stanwood, WA 98292 or to the threshing exhibit named in his honor at the Stanwood-Camano Community Fair, PO Box 901, Stanwood, WA 98292.
