On the morning of August 19, 2015 Elizabeth Jeannette (Betty Jean) Kaspar, passed away peacefully of natural causes in the presence of her daughters Mary and Amy on Camano Island, Washington.
Betty was a native San Diegan, born January 3, 1927. She would proudly say that she was the first baby born at Mission Beach in San Diego. She was the youngest of two daughters of Gerald R. and Etta A. Williams. She went to school in San Diego and graduated from San Diego High School in 1944.
She met her future husband, Charles Philip (Chuck) Kaspar Jr., at the University of Colorado. After marriage she finished college at the University of New Mexico where she received her degree in Fine Arts-painting.
She and Chuck had three children, and lived in San Diego for many years. She lovingly cared for Chuck until his death from MS in 1964. Betty was a 4th and 5th grade teacher for 21 years in the San Diego School District and inspired many of her students to say she was their favorite teacher. In retirement Betty kept busy as an avid crafter and gardener when she wasn't camping or traveling worldwide with her close companion of 20 plus years, Ray Hammack (Grandpa Ray) who passed away in 1998.
Betty had a knack for putting people at ease and making everyone feel special. She was extremely generous, creating an education fund to assist her children and grandchildren in their higher education goals.
Betty is survived by her children; Joe Kaspar, Mary Kaspar and Amy Schroepfer, her grandchildren; Tally Eddings, Caleb Kaspar, Jana Munoz, Elizabeth (Liz) Kaspar, Annie Kaspar, Ursula Remaklus, Westley Schroepfer, and her 12 great grandchildren.
Special thanks to Rene Hemmingsen and all of the fine caregivers at Crest View Adult Family Home on Camano Island, Washington for their excellent care of Betty these past three years.
Interment at Ft. Rosecrans in San Diego and a Memorial Service for family and friends will be held on December 18, 2015. Contact family for details.
Donations in Betty's name may be sent to the National MS Society or Smile Train.
