IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Earl A
Westlund
May 13, 1937 – May 16, 2022
Earl Westlund, age 85, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2022, with his loving wife Joanne, of 56 years by his side. He is survived by his six children, Daughter Kim (Mike), Son Jeff (Deanna), Son Matt, Daughter Leann (Steve), Son Mark (Jessica), Son Brett and brother Victor (Connie). In addition, he has 12 Grandchildren, Heather, Nicole, Lauren, Taylor, Lynne, Monica, Chris, Brian, Jonathan, Brittany, Kyle, Connor and 13 Great Grandchildren.
He was born on May 12, 1937, in Seattle to Ruth and Paul Westlund. Growing up he had fond memories of his mother teaching bible school to various neighborhood children in her back yard. He loved attending church with his mother and preferred to stay at her side during church service rather than attend Sunday School.
He graduated from Franklin High School in 1955. Just out of high school he worked for Seattle Nash. At the young age of 22, he purchased a Shell gas station on Beacon Hill in Seattle. Back then service stations offered full-service for auto repairs and he loved servicing cars and had a great clientele.
In 1963 he moved to the Lake Hills area in Bellevue. In 1965, he sold his service station and began a career in Real Estate. Eventually he became a real estate broker and owned his own company, Bel Crest Realty. During this time, he also built and operated two car washes. He then expanded into home construction and built homes throughout the Eastside area. His last business adventure was an asphalt and concrete business which kept him busy until his retirement in 2017.
He had a love for old cars and enjoyed going to car shows. He was able to recognize any older car he saw and tell the make, model, and year of it. When he was 18, he rebuilt a 1929 Model A roadster and named it "Casper". He was so proud of that car and entered it in various car shows and won numerous trophies. Even in his later years he was always hoping he could find an old car he could tinker with and rebuild.
He was an avid boater and spent many hours and weekends with his family or friends, cruising around Puget Sound, Hood Canal, and San Juan Islands. He loved seafood and always found the best beaches for clam and oysters. He also loved salmon fishing, crabbing and shrimping.
He will always be remembered for his detailed stories that he would tell over and over, his beautiful smile, his love for his family and his kind heart. He will be truly missed by all.
Thank you to family and friends, near and far, for your love, prayers, and support during this difficult time.
