Obituary

Earl E. Sundberg

Earl Eugene Sundberg, 88 of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully at home due to heart disease on November 20, 2017. He was surrounded by his loving wife, son, and daughter.

Earl was born in Stanwood at the family farm in Cedarhome on February 28,1929 to Alfred and Ruth Sundberg. He graduated from Twin City High School in 1947 and continued lifelong friendships with many of his classmates. Earl spent many years of his life as a Stanwood area resident and was very proud of his heritage.

Earl worked as a carpenter after high school until he, along with four high school friends, joined the U.S. Air Force on September 19, 1950 to dutifully serve their country during the Korean conflict. He was honorably discharged from military service on November 13, 1953.

Earl married his high school sweetheart Mary Darlene Wagness on February 9, 1952 and this year they celebrated 65 years of marriage.

After military service, Earl worked in the frozen vegetable industry, first at the Pictsweet facilities in Stanwood, WA and Kent, WA, then returning to Stanwood to join Twin City Foods, Inc. In 1991, Earl retired as Division Manager of the Twin City Foods facility in Lewiston, Idaho after 29 years of service with the company.

Earl enjoyed life to the fullest. After retirement, Earl and Mary spent many years "snow-birding" with family and close friends in Arizona. He was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Mariners, Seahawks, and Washington State Cougars. Earl truly loved his family and friends and we will all miss him very much.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Ruth Sundberg, brothers Stanley, Chester, and Vernon Sundberg and sister Eleanor Torset.

Earl is survived by his loving wife Mary, son Steven (Cindy), daughter Jane (Rick) Swartz, sisters June Landry, Joyce (Don) Erickson, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stan and Barb Wagness and many nieces, nephews, and a host of dear friends.

A private family graveside service followed by a celebration of Earl's life with family and friends will be announced at a later date.

The family would like to thank Hospice of the Northwest for their compassionate and attentive care during these last three months.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Northwest, 227 Freeway Drive Suite A, Mount Vernon, WA. 98273.
