Obituary

Douglas Allen Rosendahl, 77, of Stanwood, WA, passed away on April 26, 2024 after a brief illness.

Douglas was born on June 18, 1946 to Joseph and Golda Rosendahl in Seattle, WA. After Douglas graduated from Ballard High in 1964, where he lettered in cross country, he was drafted (and then enlisted) in the army and served in Vietnam. After an honorable discharge, he went on an epic road trip via modified VW bus, along with two childhood friends. They traveled all over America, Mexico, Central and South America. Another one of Douglas' passions was water skiing on Lake Sammamish. One of his prized possessions was a custom ski created and given to him by the infamous Herb O'Brien.

After graduating with an Associates degree in Food Services and Hotel Management at Shoreline CC, Douglas bartended and managed popular local restaurants, including Seattle landmark Gasparetti's. In 1976, Douglas met Teri while working together and bonded over their shared love of music and dancing. Douglas loved Motown and often recalled seeing an iconic performance by Ike and Tina Turner. Douglas and Teri had 2 children, Erica and Allison. In 1989, he and Teri realized a dream of owning 5 wooded acres in Stanwood, WA where they went from no running water and a dirt road to building a home where he would live the remainder of his years.

Douglas and his wife Teri owned several restaurants throughout the years: Country Café (Bothell, in the iconic Country Village), Big Doug's (Mill Creek) and Doug's Country Corner Café/Rockin' Hamburger House (Stanwood). He was proud of the big breakfasts, prime rib, homemade baked goods, and gourmet burgers and hand-cut fries that he and Teri would cook together. They had many regular and loyal customers through the years and won several awards for best breakfast and best hamburger as well as mentions in the guide Northwest Best Places and Seattle Cheap Eats for Big Doug's. He also worked at Cedars Café in the Tulalip Casino for 10 years prior to retiring at the age of 72.

Douglas was predeceased by his parents, 5 siblings, and wife Teri. He is survived by daughters Erica (Bruce) McKinney, Allison Rosendahl and grandson Quinn McKinney along with numerous nieces and nephews.
