Deacon Don Hanika passed away July 17, 2012 at Providence hospital, Everett surrounded by his wife and family.
He was born January 19, 1924 in Omaha Nebraska to Leroy Hanika and Ruth Cecilia Brown.
Don served in the U.S. Army Infantry in WWII, Awarded the Purple Heart, wounded in France, in November of 1944.
He was a C.P.A., high school and College Business education instructor, and later entered Deaconite training to serve as a permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church for 20 years before retiring 10 years ago.*
He was a member and served as a Deacon at St Cecilia Catholic Church in Stanwood, WA. Don was a long standing member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul,
and served as a chaplain volunteer with the Stanwood Police Department.
Don is survived by his wife Vera of 67 years, sons; Richard, Michael, Ted, Daniel, Timothy, and daughters; Patricia and Barbara, Twenty-two grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and many dear friends.
Don was preceded in death by his son David.
Visitation will be held Friday July 20, 2012 at Gilbertson Funeral Home from 9; 00AM to 12 noon and from 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday July 20th, 2012 at St Cecilia Catholic church, Stanwood
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday July 21, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Stanwood
Private family Graveside Committal with military honors will be held at Holyrood Catholic cemetery, Shoreline, WA.
In lieu of Flowers and gifts, donations can be made to St. Vincent de Paul society or the Archdiocese of Seattle Crozier Society
