IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David L.
Thoreson
April 28, 1926 – May 5, 2012
David Luther Thoreson, 86, of Mountlake Terrace, WA (formerly of Camano Island, WA), passed away peacefully early Saturday morning May 5, 2012. He was born April 28, 1926, in Fergus Falls, MN to Arthur and Jensine Thoreson, of Battle Lake, MN. A gifted musician, singer, performer, camera enthusiast and collector, pipe organ builder, and bird lover (with over 400 birds on his life list), he is survived by his wife Kathryn, 5 children, daughters Bonnie Thoreson, Anita (Thoreson) Rue, Enid (Thoreson) Peterson, sons Michael and Jeffrey,11 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and his brother Abner Thoreson, 95 of Pelican Rapids, MN. David served in the US Navy at the end of WWII, until the fall of 1946 and sang in the Navy's Blue Jacket Choir. He also sang with the Dirty Thirties, a smaller group that sang on a weekly national radio broadcast. In June of 1948, he was married to Kathryn Hanson of Fergus Falls, Minnesota and went to Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota to study music education, singing in the world renowned Concordia Choir, receiving a Bachelors of Music Degree in 1951. He taught public school music in North Dakota and Minnesota until 1959 when he accepted the position of Music Director and Business Manager at the Lutheran Bible Institute in Seattle, WA (now Trinity Lutheran College, Everett, WA). He was instrumental in facilitating the purchase of Holden Village on Lake Chelan in the early 1960's by ferrying the team from LBI through a storm via a small boat to inspect the old mining campsite and make the deal. In 1969, he went into business tuning and repairing pianos full time in the greater Seattle area until 2008 and was active with the local Piano Technicians Guild in Seattle for several years. David was active with music and choir direction throughout his career. He directed the choirs locally at First Lutheran Church of West Seattle and then at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Stanwood, WA. One of his greatest joys was participating in the selection of the new church organ and the acquisition of the grand piano that graces the sanctuary of Our Saviours Lutheran Church. The hundreds of students, family, and friends that were touched by our wonderful father and mentor will miss David's warm smile and sense of humor. Services will be held at 11AM at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Stanwood, Wa.
