IN LOVING MEMORY OF
David
Metcalf
April 5, 1940 – March 4, 2023
Dave was born in Portland, Oregon at St. Vincent's Hospital, to parents Donald Gray Metcalf, and Lois V. (Barker) Metcalf.
He had one sibling, Dan, who was two years younger. They all preceded him in death.
They lived in Portland until Dave's third grade of school, and moved to Seattle, where Dave went to Nathan Eckstein Jr. Hi, and then graduated with the '58 Roosevelt Hi class. Always a good student he went to Stanford graduating in '63. School was put on hold for his 6-month Army Nat. Guard tour with Basic at Fort Ord, and assignment to Fort Sam Houston, Texas. Dave's parents had moved to San Mateo, and he lived with them for his first year at Hastings College in San Francisco.
A marriage to Stanford friend Penny Price, occurred prior to his Hasting's law degree in '66, after which they moved to Olympia, where Dave had earned a Law Clerk position with the WA State Supreme Court, for a one year term. And in '67 they moved to Everett, and the Snohomish County Prosecutor's office. Divorce followed, and eventually co-worker Darlene Austin and he were married by their good friend Judge Don Priest. Their good fortune continued when they were able to buy a Lk Stevens waterfront property of Henry Templeman's and it became their long time residence. Darlene was a Stanwood girl, and she had two children, Keith, (Judy), Ferndale, and Kim, Sun City, AZ.
Dave left the Pros. Office in 74 and went into private practice, and Darlene stayed in the Pros. Office til her retirement in *99.
Among some of the attorneys Dave worked with were Richard Bailey, Dave Patterson, John Simpson, Roger Fisher, and Bob Rowley. They were friends to so many in the legal arena, and of course Darlene was the consummate hostess. Their annual Labor Day Chuckanut Dr. party was a real favorite.
Bill and Judy Baker, Bruce and Barb Keithley, Henry and Darlene Templeman, among so many others created a well-rounded social group. Don Carter provided some good legal advice for Dave towards this end of life. But none deserve more praise than Becky (Darrell) Probst for all the work she did for Dave.
Dave and Darlene recognized their good fortune in being able to travel and own property and liked to share it often. They really enjoyed their condo in Scottsdale, which is where life ended for her, and changed Dave's. Their friends Linda and Ralph Mackey helped Dave until 2016, and then Dan and Jets Anderson from Camano Is. took over.
Dave's life ended at Brookdale Assisted Living in Stanwood, and they are to be commended for all their efforts in making his last years comfortable, and also to the residents like Meg and Pauline who brought Dave into the conversations about the old days.
