September 11, 1956 – February 6, 2021
A lifetime resident of the Puget Sound area, Dana Lynn (Brooks) Haney passed away on February 6th, 2021 at age 64 after a 14-month battle with a rare cancer. She was preceded in death by her father, Tilman White Brooks and her brother, Tilman Allen Brooks.
Dana was born to Nellvergne Allen and Tilman W. Brooks on September 11, 1956 in Seattle, Washington. Dana spent her early childhood in the Kent and Des Moines area with her older sister, Vanessa and younger brother, Tilman (Tab). She later moved to Seattle's Queen Anne area to live with her mother. She attended Queen Anne High School. Graduating from El Camino High School in Sacramento, CA. in 1974. Dana returned to Seattle after graduating high school.
Dana met her future husband, Micheal Haney, in the late summer of 1975 at the Seattle Deli where she worked. They began dating, fell in love and were married in June of 1976. Dana and Micheal had two children together, Dustin in 1979 and Brooke in 1982. Dana worked in several jobs during her lifetime, the Cirque Dinner Theater, as an office manager at a Nutri-System Weight Loss Center and at Manpower, Inc. to name a few. Dana enjoyed the outdoors and going camping during the summer months. She joined and supported the Children's Orthopedic Hospital Guild and participated in their annual Christmas Tree Auction fundraiser. She made friends of everyone she met and her excitement about life was instantly contagious. She was joyous in every moment. Dana volunteered to teach Sunday School class for preschoolers at her local church. She also volunteered to be the popcorn mom at her children's Elementary School. She enjoyed going to her father's retirement cabin on the Entiat River for many years with her extended family and friends. She purchased it from her father to extend the pleasant fun with friends and family for another dozen years. She enjoyed traveling and went on tours of Europe on three different occasions. She also cruised and traveled to several destinations around the U.S. including New York, Alaska, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.
Dana is survived by her mother, Nellvergne; her sister, Vanessa; her husband of 44 years, Micheal; her son, Dustin and his wife, Jennifer; her daughter, Brooke and her husband, Jay and two grandchildren, Gavin and Megan. Additionally, Dana has an extended family network of 8 nieces and nephews and 11 great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life is planned later this year when COVID-19 restrictions are eased. In lieu of flowers, those who would like to honor Dana can make a donation in her name to the American Cancer Society.
