Charlotte passed quietly from this world on the evening of June 9th, after an almost 2 year battle with cancer.

Born in upstate NY, Charlotte had memories of ice fishing in winter, going to the dirt racetrack, and visits to her grandparents farm. At the age of 8, she moved with her mom and stepdad to Stanwood, WA. Later they relocated to Camaloch on Camano Is.

She attended Stanwood schools, and met her future husband Ken in high school. Charlotte was active in sports and band, playing the flute since 5th grade.

After graduating, Ken and Charlotte married in 1988 at Camano chapel, making their home at Lake Ketchum in Stanwood. Their daughter Tasha was born just over a year later, followed by their son Jacob in ’93. Charlotte was employed briefly as a checker at Camano Plaza, then at what would eventually be Bank of America for 11 years.

In 2001 Ken and Charlotte joined Village Missions as full-time pastor & wife, moving to McCleary, WA where they served for 5 ½ years. In addition to aiding her husband in ministry, Charlotte volunteered at the local school until they finally offered her a job, at which she excelled.

In early 2007 the Schmidt’s took a new pastorate, moving to Morton, WA where they served 12 ½ years. Charlotte worked with the youth in church, as well as the music ministry. As before, Charlotte proved herself invaluable as a volunteer in the local schools, until she again began working full-time there. She and her husband were also involved in the local theatre.

In late 2019, the Schmidt’s took on a new roll as District Representatives with Village Missions – taking on a region in the NW working with 25 churches.

Her hobbies were many and had always included music and softball, as well as creating custom cards and quilting. Charlotte used her many talents to serve in whatever community she lived.

Charlotte was picky when it came to food, but never with people. Her laugh was infectious and Ken always joked ‘that is how I find her in Costco!’ Her vivacious personality will be missed by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her brother David Hanson.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 38 years Ken, mother Nancy, daughter Tasha and son Jacob…as well as many extended family members.

A celebration of life is scheduled for July 30th at 1 p.m. at Camano Chapel. The service will be live streamed at Memorials • Camano Chapel
