Obituary

Carol Elaine Lowery, was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1942, to John Todd Lowery and Amy Priscilla (Buck) Lowery, in Detroit Michigan. When she was about 2 years old she moved to the hometown of her mother; the tranquil landscapes of Tennessee Ridge, Tenn. John Lowery embarked on a journey to find work "out west," in Washington State. After a year, when Carol was 5 years old, she, along with her Mother Amy, and younger sister Catherine, ventured westward on a train, settling in the picturesque town of Kirkland, Washington, in 1946. A few years later, the family welcomed a new member, David, in 1948.

Carol's educational path unfolded in Kirkland, culminating in her graduation from Lake Washington High School in 1961. During high school, she found love with her sweetheart, David J Luther. In June of that same year, they joyfully embarked on the journey of marriage.

After 13 years of marriage, David and Carol Luther parted ways. From their union came three beloved children. In 1963, Laurie entered the world, later marrying Lance Brakefield. In 1967, Michael who later married Candace Jordan, and in 1969, Patrick completed the Luther family.

Carol was a proud and nurturing grandmother to five grandchildren: Jessica Brakefield, Derek Luther, Cody Luther, Jordan Brakefield (wife Olivia), and Hanna Corey who joined the Brakefield family at age 14. She also had the joy of being a great-grandmother to Aurora Rae-Lee Brakefield.

Tragically, Carol's son Patrick passed away on November 17, 2021, leaving a void in the hearts of those who loved him. Her

brother David, whom she cherished dearly, departed in September 2016.

Throughout her life, Carol exemplified resilience, grace, and love. Her journey, marked by various chapters and locations, reflects the love and devotion she held for her family, and the friendships that she maintained and nurtured, some for over 70 years. Although she had a special affinity for things of the past, such as her taste in music, old movies (John Wayne especially), and retro Kirkland/Bellevue, she embraced new people and relationships with an open heart. She leaves behind cherished memories and a legacy of love.

Carol is preceded in death by her son Patrick, and her brother David, and is survived by her devoted children Laurie (Lance), and Michael (Candace), her loving sister Cathy, 5 grandchildren,1 great-granddaughter, and several lifelong friends that she would lovingly call family. She will be fondly remembered by all who were touched by her warmth, kindness, and enduring spirit.

A memorial service to celebrate Carol's life will be held at the home of her daughter, Laurie, on January 27th, 2024 at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to [Charity of Choice] in Carol's honor.

May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and strength to those who loved her.
