IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Bonnie Loeffler
Thomas
December 11, 1939 – August 1, 2024
Bonnie Loeffler Thomas was born December 11th, 1939 to Dale and Arlene Loeffler in Portland, Oregon. She left us on August 1st, 2024 to be with her beloved husband of 48 years, Robert "Bob" Thomas, who preceded her in death by seven months.
Bonnie attended Seattle Pacific College where she was on the debate team. There she met her first husband and made lifelong friends. She earned her master's degree in Speech from the University of Washington in 1963. A decade or so later while working at the UW media department she met and fell in love with an Economics Professor, Bob Thomas.
Bonnie's career included teaching, raising three children, Child Care Director at Camano Lutheran Church, quilt maker, world traveler and grandmother. At one point she even ran for a local school board position. She loved kids and with her organizational skills the Child Care Director was a perfect fit for her. Living on a small farm on Camano Island, she wasn't fond of the farm animals her husband and youngest daughter brought home, but she did support their passions. The only pet she ever took to was Honey, a ferret.
Bonnie had three children as independent and strong willed as her, Lisa (Johnson) McGhee, Robert Thomas, Jr. and Megan Thomas-Qunfoong. She is survived by her children, her brother, Greg Loeffler and five grandchildren, Wyatt, Grayden, Collin, Beckett and Adeline.
In the last decade of her life, dementia changed the Bonnie we knew. Bob said her sense of humor improved and she was a good problem solver. They navigated through this time in life with the help of some special people their caregivers, Maria, Daisy, Baraa, Vere, Rosella, their handyman Louis and the staff at Brookdale Stanwood Senior Living. We are so thankful for the care and love they put into taking care of Bonnie and Bob. Bonnie was very fortunate to have longtime friends and church community who were there for her throughout the decades. She will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Camano Lutheran Church.
