Bill Schakel of Stanwood, Washington, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025. Born in Workum, Friesland, on October 5, 1940, Bill was one of nine children. He immigrated to the United States in 1961, arriving by ship and settling with his Uncle Pete, Aunt Ann, and cousins.

In 1966, Bill married the love of his life, Anna. Together, they built a beautiful life over 59 years of marriage, raising four children—Wayne (Corinne) Schakel, Ron Schakel, Renee (Shane) Barrie, and Dennis (Kim) Schakel—and welcoming six grandchildren: Megan (Allen) Moss, Cole Barrie, Grant Barrie, Lauren Barrie, Molly Schakel, and Arie Schakel. Bill was a hardworking entrepreneur who began his career in landscaping before transitioning to farming in Stanwood, where he and Anna raised their family. He was a man of great warmth and humor, known for his love of storytelling and his ability to make friends wherever he went. He had a passion for travel, enjoying cruises and trips to the Caribbean, Hawaii, Europe and Mexico. Family adventures were a cherished part of his life.

He will be deeply missed by his loving family and many friends. A memorial service will be held on November 15th at 11:00 AM at Cascade Christian Reformed Church in Marysville.
