Beverly Joan (Baker) Hill

September 21, 1942 - September 5, 2026 

Beverly was born on September 21, 1942. The firstborn child to Harry and Zella Baker in Centralia, Washington. Beverly had a typical childhood growing up in the 1940’s and 50’s. From riding bikes, visiting family and doing things with her parents and sister Marcia. From an early age, she carried a quiet steadiness and a natural kindness that shaped every part of her life. She developed a lifelong love of children’s books, especially the ones she loved reading aloud.

She graduated from Centraila High school in 1960 and later left home for the first time to attend Central Washington State College in Ellensburg WA where she met her Husband Jerry Hill. Jerry and Beverly Hill were wed on June 20, 1964, in Centralia WA and moved into their first home in Aberdeen where they started a life-long marriage defined by loyalty, commitment, and a deep sense of family.

In Nov 1965 they welcomed their first child Tami. During the next 5 years they added 2 boys to their growing family, Terry (Aug 1967) and Tracey (July 1970). They also moved several times, including a short move to Missoula Mt where their second born was born. From Missoula, they moved back to Aberdeen and then to on to Cheney before settling down for the next 43 years in Bellevue. In Dec of 1972, Jerry got a job working at Bellevue Community College and after living in an apartment for a time they bought their first home in the Robinswood area of Bellevue in Oct of 1974. This is where they had their final daughter, Toni, (Aug 1975) and their family was completed.

Beverly was best known for always helping the people around her. Though raising 4 children which would keep anyone busy, she also helped often by volunteering. At the invitation of Jerry’s cousin, Dave Hill, they visited Eastside Free Methodist Church. That invitation marked the beginning of a 25‑year commitment to Eastside, where Beverly found a life‑changing love for Jesus. She volunteered at the church often, as it was only a few blocks from their home, always preferring to help quietly and behind the scenes. Beverly also opened her home to care for many of the church’s children during years when families needed support. Many of those “children” still remember her firm yet kind hand and the safety she offered.

Later as her own kids were growing up, God had more plans for her life that included the need to open her home again. This time to her first grandchildren. While raising the 3 boys, she continued to help at Eastside which had also became Eastside Christian school. Not only did she volunteer; but ended up working part time as the school librarian. For more than fifteen years, she became a familiar, comforting presence to countless children who knew her smile and her gentle encouragement. This combined with her great love of books with reading with children, she shared her love for books to all who knew her there until retirement.

Drawn by their long connection to Warm Beach Camp and the chance to live near Tami’s family, they settled in Stanwood in 2015. When they told their grandson Scott and Kiernan, their family chose to move with them. Beverly welcomed the household with her usual warmth, finding joy in the children who filled her days and the life they built together. The busy household highlighted one of her best qualities, her childlike innocence while looking at the world through the eyes of a child, along with her childlike faith.

With her health slowly fading over the last few years and she had to move into St. Josephine’s this past June. She passed quietly on September 5th with many family members visiting throughout that day, even to her last breath.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Zella, as well as her grandson Jeremiah Reed. She is survived by her sister Marcia Lamb and her family. She is also survived by her husband of 62yrs Jerry and their 4 children; Tami Reed (Barry), Terry Hill, Tracey Hill (Nicky) and Toni Stringer (Mark). 12 of her 13 grandchildren: Shonter Hill, Stephen Hill, Scott Hill (Kiernan), Daniel Reed (Danielle), Aaron Reed (Emily), Ashley Olson, Natania Wilson, Matthew Stringer, Tiffani Madakson, Benjamin Reed (Areanna), Savanah Hill & Jaxon Hill. And 13 Great- Grandchildren: Elijah Hill, Acadia Kelly, Adrian Hill, Wesley Hill, Arthur Hill, Nathan Reed, Zara Madakson, Brooklyn Reed, Quentin Hill, Samara Madakson, Thealynn Stringer, Nadia Pierce-Stringer & Malachi Reed.

Beverly’s legacy is found in the children she nurtured, the families she supported, and the love she poured into every little one who crossed her path — especially her “snickerdoodle,” Jerimiah, whose memory she carried tenderly.
