Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, Rev. Bernie D. Stone Jr. of Camano Island went peacefully to heaven on December 5, 2014. He was born on September 3, 1935 to Bernie D. Stone Sr. and Eula Stone in Huntington, WV.
As a teacher, coach, counselor, school principle and pastor he leaves a lasting legacy and a strong testimony of faith in Christ.
Bernie attended Marshall University where he earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in education. He later attended Southern Baptist Seminary where he earned a Master of Religious Education.
As a coach he led Milton Junior High and High School football and wrestling teams to several state championships.
As an American Baptist pastor he served at Beverly Hills Baptist Church in Huntington WV, as well as churches in Miami, AZ, Camarillo Springs, CA, Oakview, CA, and in Blackfoot, ID.
Bernie is survived by his wife of 55 years, Carolyn; son, Jeff; daughter- in-law, Kim; grandsons Eliot and Gabriel; brothers Charlie of El Cerrito, CA, Carl of Medford, OR, Jack of Huntington, WV, sisters Martha Thacker, and Rosie Estep, both of Huntington, and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank all of the Island Baptist Church family and the Camaloch Community friends who have been so supportive through Bernie's long illness.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 PM on Friday, December 12 at: Island Baptist Church
