Obituary

Barbara Joanne Logen, 72, of Stanwood, Washington and Goleta, California passed peacefully and with dignity in Mount Vernon, Washington on January 11, 2024, following a short illness.

Barbara was preceded in death by her husband Paul Jacobs of Goleta, California and her first husband Dick Copeland as well as her parents Thomas and Margaret Logen and brother Dan Logen. She is survived by her brother Lynn Logen and his wife Judith Logen of Bellevue, Washington, sister-in-law Pat Logen of Stanwood, nieces Bonnie Logen of Stanwood and Karen Lyons and her husband Geoff Lyons of Bellevue, nephews Erik Logen and his wife Vicki Logen of Saint John, Washington, Karsten Logen and his wife Jackie Logen of Kent, Washington and Graham Loken and Megan Foster of Stanwood, aunt Helen Cowan of Saint John and numerous cousins and great nephews.

Barbara was born in Mount Vernon, in 1951, to Thomas and Margaret Logen. Barbara attended schools in Stanwood before graduating from Washington State University and then obtaining her Master's Degree in flute performance at the University of Arizona. Barbara played the flute with many groups in the Stanwood and Goleta areas. Barbara was also an excellent organist and pianist. She played at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Stanwood for several years.

Barbara met her future husband Paul Jacobs while attending the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon. Following their marriage Barbara and Paul traveled widely and enjoyed many trips to Europe where they met friends and attended concerts and enjoyed the sights. Following Paul's passing Barbara regularly traveled between Stanwood and Goleta and kept very busy with gardening and stained-glass artistry. She enjoyed many cruises and trips with her brother Lynn and his wife Judy.

Barbara gave flute and piano lessons to many and with her husband Paul learned to play the viola da gamba. They enjoyed playing with many groups in Washington and California and attending workshops together. Barbara also composed and had published flute and viola da gamba music.

Barbara will be greatly missed by family, fellow musicians and her many friends and students.

A celebration of life for Barbara will be held at the Floyd Norgaard Cultural Center in Stanwood on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
