Obituary

After a long and valiant effort, Anton (Tony) Messerklinger passed away peacefully in his home on Camano Island, Washington on September 25, 2015.

Tony was born January 18, 1924 in Stadl, Bavaria, to parents Maria (Höfl) and Jakob Messerklinger. He was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and grandfather. He is predeceased by his sisters Ida and Bertha, and brothers Hermann and Jakob. He is survived by Anneliese, his loving wife of 63 years, his daughter Leslie (Dave), his son Tom (Lisa), his grandchildren: Stephen, Mandy, Annalisa and Alexandra, great grandson Devon, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Tony was a World War II veteran, a machinist, and a master craftsman. He enjoyed tinkering around the house, gardening, sightseeing, health & fitness, listening to and playing music, and helping others. He especially loved his trade, having an uncanny ability to find clever solutions to problems. He knew how to use any tool and material to construct, repair, and improve. When he fixed something, it was permanent. He was even awarded a patent from the German Patent and Trade Mark Office for one of his many ideas.

While he was proud of living as an American citizen, he remained true to the peace-loving customs and traditions of his German heritage. He worked hard to provide for his family, yet he led a modest lifestyle, and was dedicated to his Catholic faith. Much like his work, he left a lasting impression on the people he met. Despite having lived a meaningful 91 years, those who knew him would agree his time was cut short. We remember Tony's courage, as well as his sensitive, kind, and humble nature, and we will miss him dearly.

The family will announce services at a future date.
