Anthony James ("Jim") Wachtveitl, 85, of Blaine, WA passed away, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at his home.
A family funeral is scheduled for April 10th. In lieu of flowers and condolences, the family encourages donations to the Whatcom Humane Society.
Jim was born on June 29, 1932 in Monterey, CA to Joseph and Angela (Poklasny) Wachtveitl. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1950 and received an AA degree from the Skagit Valley Community College. In his teens he was an Eagle Scout with a Silver Palm designation, served as an assistant Scoutmaster, participated in school basketball and baseball, and received an award for collecting over a ton of newspapers for the war effort (WWII).
He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1950, served 20 years active duty and 10 years reserve duty. He served aboard the minesweeper USS Ruddy. He was stationed in Adak, AK, Long Beach, CA, Treasure Island, San Francisco, CA, Yokosuka, Japan (twice), Cheltenham, Maryland, Naval Security Station, Washington D.C., Charleston, SC, and Midway Island. In June, 1952 he married the former Eunice Lund in Everett, WA. After retiring from the Navy with a rank of Chief Petty Officer, Jim retired from 15 years with Seattle First National Bank (later renamed to Bank of America), and worked 11 years for the Mobile Exchange Armor Car Company.
Jim is survived by wife Eunice, one daughter, Gloria, three sons, Donald, Kenneth and David, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and preceded in death by one daughter, Cheryl.
He enjoyed spending time with his family.
