Obituary

Anna M. King, 95 years old, of Stanwood, died peacefully at her beloved home, on April 28. She was born in Burlington, Washington, in October of 1924. Anna grew up on the family dairy farm in south Mount Vernon, where a strong work ethic and great determination were instilled in her from a very early age. She later graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1941, attended Skagit Valley College, and Graduated from Gregg School of Court Reporting in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a secretary for the Skagit County Cooperative Extension Service. Later, Anna served as a court reporter in Skagit County Superior Court for 13 years, until she married Gene King in 1961. They soon bought Hillside Farm in Stanwood, where they farmed and raised their two children, George and Diane. They took pride in working hard, raising beef cattle and growing various crops throughout the years.

Anna exemplified the Proverbs 31 woman throughout her life. She was never idle; she cooked, cleaned, sewed clothing for herself and her family, worked in the garden to provide food, canned and preserved the food she grew, supported her husband on the farm, volunteered with multiple organizations, and donated much to her community.

She was a skilled professional woman, a hard working farmer, enterprising business woman, devoted aunt, wife, mother, grandmother, and "great-grammie." Anna even had a season where she served as a horse 4-H leader, while her daughter was a participant of the club. Anna also deeply enjoyed being an active and devout member of St. Cecilia's Catholic Church, and she felt strongly about the importance of volunteering and helping those in need.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents, George and Magdalena Waltner; siblings Ernest Waltner, Charles Waltner, Frank Waltner, Herb Waltner, Martha Tellesbo, and Lucille Christianson; husband Gene King; son George King.

Anna will be greatly missed, and her legacy lives on in her daughter Diane (Dan) Eakin; grandchildren Phillip (Clarissa) Eakin, Victoria (Nathan) Morris, Analissa (Ethan) Jobb, Katie Eakin, Alex Eakin; and great-grandchildren Kaleb Morris, Evelyn Morris, and Broderick Eakin. The Lohman family: Dave, Annie, Sam, and Abby, held a special place in her family. Anna's extended family includes many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as great-great nieces and nephews. She treasured them all, and marveled at how her family continued to grow!

Anna was buried in Stanwood, next to Gene and George. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Gifts in her memory may be made to the Stanwood-Camano Food Bank, or charity of your choice.
